Dermal Filler
Dermal Filler
What it is
Dermal fillers are injectable gels made primarily from hyaluronic acid (HA) or other biocompatible substances that restore volume, smooth lines, and enhance facial contours. They target areas such as cheeks, lips, nasolabial folds, marionette lines, jawline, chin, and hands.
How it works
The filler gel is deposited into specific tissue depths to replace lost volume, lift soft tissue, and stimulate a natural-looking support structure. HA fillers attract and bind water, delivering immediate volume and surface smoothing. Effects depend on product formulation (particle size, cross-linking) and injection technique.
Common treatment areas & goals
Cheeks: restore midface volume and improve cheek contour.
Lips: add volume, define borders, correct asymmetry..
Nasolabial folds & marionette lines: soften deep folds around the mouth.
Jawline & chin: sharpen jawline, improve profile balance.
Peri oral lines, commonly known as smokers lines or lip lines. We use a think velocity filller by needle or cannula to effectively reduce the appearance of these lines to give a more youhful appearance.
Procedure overview
Consultation: assessment of facial anatomy, skin quality, medical history, and aesthetic goals. A personalised plan is recommended.
Preparation: face cleaned; topical numbing or local anesthetic may be used for comfort.
Injection: precise microbolus or cannula techniques are used depending on area and product. Sessions typically last 30–60 minutes.
Aftercare: gentle ice, avoid strenuous exercise and alcohol for 24–48 hours, sleep on an elevated pillow for one night, avoid facial massages unless instructed.
Results & longevity
Immediate improvement is typical. HA fillers generally last 6–18 months depending on product, area treated, and individual metabolism. Denser, more cohesive fillers for structural support may last longer. Repeat treatments maintain or enhance results.
Safety & side effects
Common temporary effects: redness, swelling, bruising, tenderness, lumps. These usually resolve within days to two weeks.
Rare but serious risks: vascular occlusion (can cause ischemia/skin necrosis or vision loss), infection, granuloma formation, asymmetry. Choosing an experienced injector and appropriate techniques (aspiration, slow injection, knowledge of anatomy, use of cannula when appropriate) reduces risks.
Reversal: HA fillers can be dissolved with hyaluronidase in cases of overcorrection, persistent lumps, or vascular compromise.
